Year end recap + looking forward to 2012 ....

As the Old Bro Network draws the curtains on our 1st year in existence, we have a few items to make everyone aware of, then we'll reflect on a year gone by and another to come .....

First, please welcome the 280th Old Bro to the roster ..... Vern Tyerman (EpSig 447).  Vern's contact info was forwarded by Hank Hickey, who earns a "Stud of the Week" mention for his efforts.  Also sending in revised info were Ron Azad (EpSig 685), Tim Gudim (EpSig 818), and Scott McDonald (EpSig 1044).  New & revised e-cards have been sent out for all, please update your records accordingly.

Next, Old Bro Trevor Kirschner (EpSig 1131) posted the following note (and photo) on the UCLA Lambda Chi Alumni Facebook page .....

Merry Christmas Brothers. I'm 43 years old and for Christmas my mother needle pointed a Lambda Chi Alpha tree ornament for me... She also made my wife a Pi Beta Phi ornament and my dad a sigma chi ornament. Happy Holidays everyone!

Old Bro Network thinks that Trevor's mom deserves mention as a "Stud-ette of the Week" for such a cool gift (even got the colors right !!).

For all of you who are registered on Facebook, check out Trevor's UCLA Lambda Chi Alumni page, send him a note and he'll get you included in it.  The Old Bro Network whole-heartedly endorses Trevor's efforts (and his mom's as well !!)

Jenna ScilacciFinally, belated congratulations go out to Jenna Scilacci (daughter of Old Bro Jim Scilacci - EpSig 670) and the rest of the UCLA women's volleyball team on winning UCLA's 108th NCAA championship !!  The Lady Bruins defeated Illinois 3 sets to 1 in San Antonio on 12/17 to win our first women's volleyball championship since 1991 .... way to go, Jenna !!

Now, for a few thoughts on what the Old Bro Network has been able to accomplish in our 1st year of operation .....

1) Grew the roster from 58 original Old Bro's to our current total of 280.  This is simply the result of the participation and support of many of you Old Bro's out there who have sent in contact info on other Old Bro's, thus expanding the roster.  Our original goal was to have the means to get information circulated as quickly as possible amongst as many of us as possible in the event of ANY kind of news about any one of us, and I think we are well on the way to having that capability.

2) Held a fundraising drive in support of the "New Bro's" who re-colonized our chapter on campus and received our charter back from the national fraternity.  Old Bro Lenny Poirier presented the current High Alpha with a check for $11,000 at the Chartering Banquet in April, on behalf of the 50 or so Old Bro's who contributed to this worthy cause (special thanks to Old Bro Dave Adelman a.k.a. the Grand High Rainmaker for rallying the troops to dig deep and donate big time !!).

3) Helped to promote and get the word out about several Old Bro events, starting with the Chartering Banquet, but also including lunch get-togethers, UCLA baseball games, the Summer Reunion party, a couple of UCLA football get-togethers, the 1st annual Tahoe Conclave, and the recent Alumni-Active Luncheon held at the chapter house.

4) Honored the memory of Old Bro's who are no longer with us.

5) Hopefully have stirred up a bunch of fond memories from everyone's time in the house, as well as re-kindling a few old friendships.

Old Bro Network would LOVE to hear anyone's thoughts on how we might further improve the Old Bro Network ..... this little project has already evolved into something WAY more than what it originally started out to be, and it really belongs to all of YOU ..... so drop me a note if you have any ideas, I'm open to anything that will benefit the group.

Onward to 2012 .....  just to jump start your calendar for next year, consider the following dates of great importance .....

Jan 23 - "Year of the Dragon" begins, signifying a period of success and happiness ..... hopefully by then the UCLA basketball Bruins will still be in the Pac-12 race.

Feb 17 - Opening day for UCLA baseball at Jackie Robinson Stadium.  Get out and support your Bruins this year, JRS is a great place to see a game !!

Feb 29 - Leap Day ..... rumor has it that this is the ONLY day that new football coach Jim Mora will allow seniors to jump the wall and ditch practice.

May 20 - Partial eclipse of the sun visible in the western USA, and no, excessive consumption of Old Milwaukee will NOT be the cause of the eclipse.

July 27 - Summer Olympics begin in London.  Hoist a Guinness in support of all the UCLA athletes who will be competing there.

Sept 08 - 1st home game for new head football coach Jim Mora, who is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha (U. of Washington) ..... GO BRUINS !!

Dec 21 - the Mayan calendar predicts that this date will be the end of the world as we know it.  Old Bro Network thinks they just conjured this idea up in order to have a great theme party somewhere !!

I'm also sure that there will be several "Old Bro" events to talk about next year ..... if anyone has any ideas they would like to promote (golf tournament, anyone ?) drop me a note and I'll make sure to help you get the word out about it.

Let's all make year number TWO of the Old Bro Network even better than year number ONE ..... remember, it's all about YOU anyway so take your best shot.

From the inmate STILL running the asylum .....

Yours in ZAX,
EpSig 700

Happy Holidays from the Old Bro Network !!

First of all, thanks and best wishes go out to all of you Old Bro's out there who have participated in and supported this little project since it began a year ago.  Our directory of contact info is now established and thriving, with close to THREE HUNDRED Old Bro's on the roster.  I'm certain that we'll pass that milestone early next year, as Old Bro's continue to send in contact info on other Old Bro's.  And, I'm also sure that the Old Bro Network will continue to evolve into something MORE than just a directory ..... stay tuned.
Also, happy holidays to the newest member of the Old Bro Network, Duane Ruth (EpSig 1024).  Duane is the regional manager in Santa Monica for American Solar Direct, the fastest growing residential solar power company in the country.  So if you're interested in lowering your electric bills, drop Duane a note and say howdy.  Duane's addition to the roster brings our total count of Old Bro's up to 279.

And an Old Bro shall lead them ..... Old Bro Network also wishes to send out out some holiday cheer to UCLA's new head football coach, Jim Mora, who is undoubtably hoping that Santa Claus can bring him a rocket-armed QB, a few grizzly bear type linemen on BOTH sides of the ball, and a crash course in how to defend against the spread offense.  Looks like he's already got the "I can't believe we just scored" move down, hopefully we'll see this move on the sidelines FREQUENTLY next year.  And if you didn't already know, Coach Mora is a member of LAMBDA CHI ALPHA (U. of Washington) ..... GO BRUINS !!!

I'll close this holiday update with a few inspirational quotes you can reflect on during this Christmas season .....

"Christmas is the season when you buy this year's gifts with next year's money" ..... (Unknown)

"Mail your packages early so the post office can lose them in time for Christmas" ..... (Johnny Carson)

"Santa is very jolly because he knows where all the bad girls live" ..... (Dennis Miller)

And finally ..... "The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene displayed in Washington D.C.  This wasn't for any religious reasons.  They just couldn't find three wise men and a virgin" ..... (Jay Leno)

Old Bro News & Notes - 11/12/11

OLD BRO EVENT ALERT -- Hopefully you all have received your invitation from High Rho Max Henderson regarding the "Alumni Lunch Reception" being held at the newly renovated chapter house on 12/3 from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM.

Please consider stopping by the house to see all of the new improvements, many of which were funded by donations from the Old Bro Network.  I encourage everyone to stop by and check it out, if only to compare it to what you remember life was like back when YOU were living at 10918 Strathmore Drive .....

Truth be told, I got FIVE years at UCLA since I didn't really do it right
my freshman year (which was BEFORE I became a studly Lambda Chi).

Also, the Old Bro Network is pleased to announce the addition of THREE new Old Bro's, as well as updated information for FIVE Old Bro's.

Our three NEW Old Bro's are Chris Plows (EpSig 872), Jeff Donaldson (EpSig 1068), and Chris Kelly (EpSig 1252).  This brings the total roster count for the Old Bro Network up to 278.  Please drop them a note and make them feel welcome.  Updated info was sent in by Mike Gallegos (EpSig 1090).

In addition, Old Bro Network has been informed that four of the 1950's and 1960's Old Bro's who were added to the roster in a previous posting are, in fact, no longer with us (i.e. deceased).  These four individuals are John Stearns (EpSig 336), John Ford (EpSig 354), Jim Krembas (EpSig 373), and Bruce Boydston (EpSig 423).  Old Bro Network will change their status on the roster to "In Memoriam", as we have done in the past with other Old Bro's who are no longer with us.  Please correct your records accordingly as well.

MOVEMBER Team - Klein's Journey

Old Bro Network received the following from Mike Pappas (EpSig 841) about another one of our Old Bro's .....

Lambda Chi Bros,

Our Bro, Steve Klein (EpSig 853) is currently fighting a very aggressive form of prostate cancer.  He is doing well, but after surgery last year is now undergoing daily radiation treatment.  I have registered a team for Movember, which is a group that grows mustaches in the month of November each year to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer and other diseases.  It's a fun way to support a serious cause and there are a number of Movember festivities in LA and worldwide.

I'd encourage all Bros to join the team  "Klein's Journey"  or at least donate to the cause.   Do it for Steve, for yourself, and for all the other men who have faced or are likely to face this disease. The information is below.  Please  feel free to forward this message to anyone you think may support the cause.

Mike  Pappas

To join  the Klein's Journey Movember team  or to donate or start your own team go to https://www.movember.com/us/register/details/team_id/321058.

As more people become Citizens of Movember, more lives will be impacted. You can grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or join as a Mo Sista to show your support and help recruit other Mo growers to the team.

Once registered, Movember will send you all the information you need to start raising awareness and funds for men's health as part of my Movember team.

If you'd like to find out more about the programs funded by Movember, please visit http://us.movember.com/about.

Please join me at https://www.movember.com/us/register/details/team_id/321058.

OK, Old Bro's, I'm throwin' down a challenge ..... it's time to rally behind one of our own !!  I encourage ALL of you to join Mike's team in support of Steve, lose your razorblades for the month of November, donate generously to this cause, and show once again how a bunch of Old Bro's can make an impact !!

Direct from the "way back" machine .....

This week the Old Bro Network is pleased to announce the addition of FORTY THREE new Old Bro's, the large majority of them from the 1950's and 60's, courtesy of contact info sent in by Stan Benson (EpSig 305), who earns the honors as "Stud of the Week" for his efforts.

To give you some idea of what campus life was like back then, here are a couple of items from the 1960 Southern Campus yearbook .....

Yes, that's our "Stud of the Week" Stan back in the day when he was High Alpha of the house ..... a stud 50+ years ago, and still a stud today.  Stan sent in contact info on forty-one of his fellow EpSig brothers, here's the list of new "very Old Bro's" that are now part of the Old Bro Network .....

Also this week we have two newer Old Bro's to add to the roster (comparatively speaking, of course), please welcome Andrew Johnson (EpSig 997) and Frank Marolda (EpSig 1078).  This week's additions brings the Old Bro Network's total roster count up to 275.

Updated info was sent in by Walter Sylvester (EpSig 1150) and Craig Gilbert (EpSig 1108) ..... all of the new and updated e-cards have been e-mailed out to the entire roster.

As always, if you have contact info on any Old Bro's who are currently NOT on the roster, send it in and I'll get them hooked up.  Likewise, if your contact info ever changes or is inadvertently listed incorrectly, drop me a note and I'll fix that as well.

Old Bro "Tahoe Conclave" Fall 2011

What do you get when you combine the following elements ??

1)  Great scenery and weather .....

2) Great food and great wine .....

3) Great golf .....

Meador concentrating on the 10th tee after sinking a 60 foot par putt on 9 .....
4) Great friends .....

Old Bro's John Kohler, MJ Harness, Bill Harrison, Tuck Meador, and Gary Messerotes

Of course what you get is the very first "Tahoe Conclave" of Old Bro's !!

Graciously hosted by Old Bro's Bill Harrison (EpSig 631) and John Kohler (EpSig 640), a great time was had by all ..... a morning bike ride followed by lunch at a water-side restaurant, the ceremonial openings of MANY bottles of very nice wines (and the subsequent emptying of those bottles), firing up the grill on the patio for some BBQ'ed shrimp and sausages, watching on TV as the Bruins pulled out a nail-biter of a victory at the Rose Bowl, then the next morning teeing it up at the VERY scenic Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Old Bro Network has ALWAYS felt that it's a very cool thing when Old Bro's can get together and have a little fun, and this weekend in Tahoe was a perfect example of that.

In fact, all in attendance agreed that there will HAVE to be another "Tahoe Conclave" next year, and we're going to see how many other Old Bro's we can get to join us !!  And with everything that the Lake Tahoe area has to offer, next year's event is planned to be held over a FOUR DAY period (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) so we can have even MORE fun ..... obviously more info to follow as plans get finalized.

As always, if any of you other Old Bro's out there have some photos and/or stories of Old Bro's getting together, send them in and I'll publish them on the Old Bro Network for all to enjoy.

EpSig News & Notes - Hollywood Edition

Thanks to Old Bro Robert Frackelton (EpSig 1103) for sending the Old Bro Network the following news item about EpSig alum Billy Brown (EpSig 1138), who is continuing to make his mark on the scene in Hollywood .....

Billy Brown will appear in the upcoming sixth season as a homicide detective on the Showtime drama.

Bill Brown Witch Mountain Premiere
Billy Brown aka EpSig 1138
Lights Out actor Billy Brown has joined the cast of Showtime’s Dexter.

Brown will appear in the sixth season in a recurring capacity, playing the character of Mike Cutler, a no-nonsense Chicago homicide detective who transfers to Miami Metro, where he immediately ruffles some feathers.

Brown, who played Patrick “Lights” Leary’s boxing nemesis Richard “Death Row” Reynolds on the short-lived drama Lights Out, has also appeared in Southland, Dirt and Californication.

Dexter, led by Michael C. Hall as the title character, is on a roll as of late, securing several actors in key parts for the new season, including Battlestar Galactica vet Edward James Olmos, rapper Mos (formerly Mos Def) and The Good Guys star Colin Hanks.

Robert also informed us that the hit ABC comedy series "Modern Family" was filming some scenes at the Lambda Chi house last week, although only with the male characters from the show, and NOT with Sofia Vergara (below), who MAY have been a candidate for Crescent Queen this year.  Congratulations to all of the EpSig bro's, both old and new, on making an impact on the Hollywood scene .....

Old Bro "Fall Rush 2011" membership drive recap

House photo courtesy Trevor Kirschner via the UCLA Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni Facebook group page

The Old Bro Network is pleased to announce that the "Fall Rush 2011" membership drive campaign has resulted in the addition of EIGHTY new Old Bro's, by far the largest roster jump in Old Bro Network history.  This brings the total roster count to 232, exactly QUADRUPLING the amount of Old Bro's who have had their contact info posted since this little project began last December.

First up, and taking over as the new "low zeta" of the Old Bro Network, is Stan Benson (EpSig 305).  Stan is part of the "Older Bro Network" that Corp Board President Tom Fagan mentioned in the note that I posted last week, and he continues to support the chapter, please welcome him to the Old Bro Network.

We could not get such a stellar "Fall Rush 2011" class without the help of a few "Studs of the Week", all of whom sent in contact info on Old Bro's who were not previously on the roster.  This week's "STUDS" are David Neuman, Larry Jackel, Tim O'Rourke, and also Trevor Kirschner, who runs the Facebook group page for UCLA Lambda Chi Alumni and continues to cross promote the Old Bro Network as well.

Without further adieu, I present the rest of the "Fall Rush 2011" class of new Old Bro's .... take a look, I'm sure you'll spot an old friend or two amongst the newcomers, and by all means, reach out and say howdy to any or all of them.

Old Bro Network continues to thank all of you who support and participate in this project, and with your help, our directory of contact info will continue to grow in the future.

UCLA - Texas pregame tailgate party !!

Several Old Bro's gathered in the parking lot west of the Rose Bowl for a tailgate party prior to the UCLA-Texas game on 9/17/11.  On hand for the festivities were Greg Anicich, Mike Benavente, Lanny Noveck, Jim Kaldem, Ernie Marchosky, Bill Waller, Nick Svetcoff, Jim Scilacci, and Rich Schammel, all getting pumped up for kickoff.

L to R - Mike Benavente, Greg Anicich, Nick Svetcoff, Lanny Noveck -- rumor has it that Anicich was on the phone at that very moment to Texas coach Mack Brown, trying to convince him and his staff to SWITCH SIDELINES FOR JUST ONE GAME so the Bruins could see what a real coaching staff looks like .... Mack didn't go for it, however, and the result was horrible for the Bruins, a 49-20 loss.  Nice try, Greg ..... sell it a little harder next time !!

Old Bro Jim Scilacci sitting ON a tailgate AT a tailgate party (how appropriate) talking with Rich Schammel
Thanks to Jim Kaldem for sending in these photos, for that he earns mention as a "Stud of the Week".

Old Bro Network is always in favor of having Old Bro's get together and re-connect, whether it's at a football game, over lunch, drinks, whatever.  Send in any "Old Bro get together" stories and/or photos and I'll publish them here for all to enjoy.

Message from Corp Board President Tom Fagan

Received the following e-mail from Corporation Board President Tom Fagan (EpSig 504) this week about how the donations from the Old Bro Network and other alumni have had a major impact on living conditions at the house:

Dear Brothers Benson, Chavannes, Senik, Cudney, Smith, Bonar, Martin, Verity, Milner, Frindt, Ramella, Nelson, Rainer, Bazoian, O’Leary, Hickey, Costarella, and Braffet; (AKA Older Bro Network)

On behalf of the Corporation Board and the undergraduate chapter I would like to extend a hearty “Thank You” for taking a moment to write a check to reinvest in Epsilon Sigma Zeta and of course to Brother Hickey for donating that svelte and handsome pool table for the undergraduates’ enjoyment. The undergraduates will be using these timely donations as your alumni class era intended – to refurnish the front living room of the house and touching up and refinishing the trophy cabinet and the room. I believe the furniture will be on display at the alumni day and Rush event this coming Friday evening, though the work on the trophy cabinet will not commence until after Rush is completed.

Your timely donations plus the donations from the Old Bro Network announced at the Chartering Banquet in May have made it possible for the undergraduate chapter to refurbish their kitchen, living room, and other areas that virtually guaranty that Epsilon Sigma will be standing tall during Fall Rush and will enhance he camaraderie that is building in this restored chapter.  The Corporation Board is investing over $110,000 in installing a new roof; a new heating and ventilation system; an improved fire sprinkler system, and some seismic work this fall in a 6-week project that will begin just after Rush is completed. We believe this will further improve health and safety measures in the house in conjunction with a nationwide focus on risk monitoring and fire safety by the Lambda Chi headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. Look for an e-mail that I will forward to you detailing the undergraduates’ excitement over the prospects for a great Fall quarter 2011.

Once again, a sincere thanks to you.

J. Thomas (Tom) Fagan Ep. Sig. 504

President, Corporation Board
Epsilon Sigma Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha Inc.

Here's a few photos to show what these donations have resulted in:

Again, thanks to everyone in the Old Bro Network who so graciously donated to the fundraising effort this past spring, it's great to see that effort now being turned into reality by the "new bro's" as they continue to build a strong Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at UCLA.

1st Honorary "Old Bro" is ..... ???

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first "honorary" member of the Old Bro Network.  This individual's knowledge, wisdom, compassion, laughter, and spirit have inspired more Old Bro's than ANY individual member of our roster.  Please welcome to the Old Bro Network, the legend herself ..... Florida Taylor Ward.

So much more than just our cook, Florida kept us on the right path, listening to us when we needed an ear, advising us when we needed to know the cold hard truth, and verbally whipping us back into shape if we ever got out of line.  Flo always took great pride into helping her "boys" grow into being men, and her effect on a generation of Lambda Chis is immeasurable.  One of the first rules we were taught upon joining the house was "Florida is the Supreme Master in the kitchen.  Do what she asks you to do or suffer the consequences".  Anyone who didn't follow her orders would get the "special" chocolate pudding at the next Monday night dinner, and that would be the LAST time they didn't do what Florida asked.
Florida continues to this very day to keep tabs on her boys, the photos below are of her attending the Chartering Banquet this past April and the Summer Reunion party this past July.

Florida with Jim LaPeter, Doug Ledsam, and Steve Hauser at the Chartering Banquet - April 16, 2011

Florida right in the middle of all her boys at the reunion party July 30, 2011 ..... just the way she likes it.
"Stud of the Week" honors go out to Steve Sann (EpSig 784) for sending in Florida's contact info, which has been sent out via E-card to everyone on the Old Bro Network roster.  I'm certain she would very much appreciate a call, a card, flowers, or her favorite ..... a bottle of Mumm's champagne !!  By the way, Flo's birthday is April 8, so mark your calendars accordingly.

I'm also certain that there are dozens if not hundreds of stories and anecdotes about Florida, feel free to leave a comment below or send them to me and I'll publish them for all to enjoy.

Classic Moments in EpSig History, Vol. 3

Not only were the Old Bro's definitely dangerous on the intramural football field, but the softball teams that wore the purple, green, and gold were equally studly as well.  Bill Schlichter (EpSig 647) sent in the following pic of the 1975 Ronrico Rum Cup winning team, anchored at shortstop by Jack Power (EpSig 667).

Jack's account of the how the championship game ended:

"Setting the record straight! The game ended 8-7. We beat the Sigma Nu's to win the 16 team tournament by Ronrico Rum and Playboy. The last out was recorded on the rarest of plays. The last hitter for the "Signus" hit a 2 hopper deep in the hole at short. I don't think I could have gotten it. It did hit the runner on second who was appropriately running with the pitch and got struck by the ball between 2nd and third in full stride ending the game in the bottom of the 7th and last inning. If you were scoring that day, you would have given Gary Williams the final "put-out". We were undefeated and untied that year. Fuck You Sigma Nu's. Boy were they pissed."

Jack also sent in the following photo of Gary Williams playing 3rd base (that's Jack in the background at shortstop) taken during the Ronrico Cup tournament:

As always, if anyone has any old photos they would like to share on the Old Bro Network, send them in and I'll get them published for all to enjoy.

Old Bro News & Notes - 9/3/11

Lately I've been doing some tweaking and tuning to the Old Bro Network site, and I hope you all have noticed that I've added a "Join the Old Bro Network" section over on the right sidebar.

This added feature of the site seems to be working well, as this week the Old Bro Network is pleased to announce the addition of SEVEN new Old Bro's to the roster, bringing our total count to 151.

First up is our second "transfer" Old Bro, Bob Hoffman, who was initiated as Iota Sigma 663 at Valparaiso University in Indiana before moving to UCLA where he spent his last three years of college life hanging with the EpSig crowd on Strathmore Drive.

Next, the 900 zeta bro's are finally starting to jump on the Old Bro Network bandwagon, checking in this week are Michael Dreyfus (EpSig 904), Tom Knauer (EpSig 933), Chris Dyrek (EpSig 940), Dan Stroot (EpSig 966), and Bob Trapnell (EpSig 986). Please welcome them all ....

Remember, the Old Bro Network is open to ANY alumni of EpSig who would like to share their contact info on this website ..... it's intended to be a resource for everyone to use to keep in touch with old friends.

Finally, the Old Bro Network would like to honor the memory of Mark Webster (EpSig 1104) by including his name on our roster as "In Memoriam", as we have done with Dave Rufener & Mike Mullins. We should not forget those who left us WAY too soon, and a simple way of doing that to include them on the roster of Old Bro's.

Even more football -- NoCal Old Bro's @ Stanford 10/1

Got this e-mail the other day from Nick Svetcoff (EpSig 746) about the Bruin football team's annual visit to the Bay Area, this year at Stanford on 10/1:

The annual Bruin Bay Area game is coming up Saturday October 1st (game time to be determined).  If you are interested in going this year, please let me know by September 1st as I am getting tickets through the Stanford Athletic Department.  Given’s Stanford’s recent success, the game will sell out.  Ticket prices are $30.  If you are interested in joining us at the Bruin Bash pre-game tailgate, tickets are $25 ($30 at the door).

Please contact me with any questions.

San Francisco, CA 94111

Anyone interested in attending this game get in touch with Nick and he'll hook you up.  Watch Heisman Trophy front-runner Andrew Luck and the rest of the Cardinal do battle with the Bruins.

Personally, I think we would stand a better chance of winning if Stanford put their famous marching band on the field at kickoff instead of at halftime, but, as we all know, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN on Saturday afternoons in the fall ..... GO BRUINS !!!

Football follow-up -- LXA intramural stars in action !!

After seeing last week's blog post about the amazing Lambda Chi intramural football team, Old Bro Jeff Summers (EpSig 658) dug through his archives and sent in the following "action" photos from Fall 1974 for all to enjoy:

Can't tell for sure if that's the SNU's or the SAE's that the bro's are locked in battle with, maybe one of you participants can shed some light on that .....

"Stud of the Week" honors to Jeff Summers for sharing these ..... As always, if anyone has any photos of the Old Bro's in action (either on the field of battle or off), send them in and I'll publish them for all to enjoy.

And all of you other Old Bro's out there, don't let these 600 zeta Old Bro's steal all of your thunder !!  Send in your pix and I'll post them as well !!

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL ??

OK, Bruins, it's time once again to get ready for another football season at the Rose Bowl.

Will the Bruins rebound from last season's 4-8 record or are they destined to finish at the bottom of the new Pac-12 South ??

I'm not even 100% sure they could beat the team in the photo below .....
(Top L-R) Jack Power, Gary Messerotes, Mike Wright, Doug Ledsam, Steve Robbins, John Kohler, Rees Evans
(Bottom L-R)  Brett Rowley, Glenn Garlick, Vic Caldwell, Mark Keller, Jim Meier, Mike Cook, Gary Williams

Presenting the Lambda Chi Alpha intramural football team, circa 1975 or so.  Some of the meanest, roughest, toughest, beer drinkin' and hell raisin' bad-asses who ever set foot on UCLA's intramural football fields.

As you can tell, most of them aren't looking at the photographer, I believe their minds are all on the keg that is cooling down back at the house for the post-game celebration (or maybe that was for the pre-game celebration ..... or possibly even DURING the game, depending on what we could sneak onto the sidelines).

As for the 2011 Bruin football team, hopes are high with a revamped coaching staff and another year of experience for the many underclassmen who have had to play in the last couple of years ..... GO BRUINS !!!

For all of you Old Bro's who will be attending the UCLA-Texas game on Sept. 17, contact Greg Anicich at gsanicich@sbcglobal.net to coordinate getting together outside the Rose Bowl before the game to share a few "Old Bro" stories and to meet some "Old Bro" friends.

Old Bro News & Notes -- 8/7/11

The Old Bro Network is pleased to announce the addition of TWO new Old Bro's, bringing our total roster count up to 144.  In addition, THREE Old Bro's have sent in updated info as well.

This week, from the 800 zeta bro's, we welcome Ross Berry (EpSig 849) and Jim Silvia (EpSig 880).  I had the pleasure of meeting Jim at the Summer Reunion party, and he definitely fits the mold of a studly Lambda Chi.  Feel free to drop these new Old Bro's a note and welcome them to the group.

Sending in revised info were Lee Troxler (EpSig 688), Drew Kohler (EpSig 692), and Scott Phillips (EpSig 830).  New and updated e-cards have been sent out to all, please update your records accordingly.

As usual, if any of you have contact info on any Old Bro's who are currently NOT on the roster, send it to me and I'll get them hooked up.  I did notice a few guys at the reunion whose contact info I don't have (Todd Noia, Brett Stover, Steve Adler, Carl Dispenziere among others), so please, check the roster and forward contact info you might have on anyone who isn't already listed.

And, if your contact info is incorrect, incomplete, or if it ever changes, drop me a note and I'll fix that as well.

FEEL THE POWER ..... of a legendary EpSig Stud !!

Just happened to be browsing through the 331 photos of the recent summer reunion party that John Morris sent out to everyone ..... thank you again John, you are a Stud of the Week, Month, and Year for hosting that affair.

A couple of photos left me wondering ..... just what is it that Don Tringali (EpSig 743) has that other Old Bros seem to want ??  I mean, check out the two photos below:

Now, in this first one, I'm not 100% certain what D.A. is reaching out to shake with his right hand, but brother Don certainly looks excited about his future prospects for short term gratification ..... I'm just sayin'.

Later, in this photo, Dave Shapiro looks very serious as he executes a left handed sneak attack on Don's ..... (well, draw your own conclusions, bro's).

Obviously, this legendary EpSig stud (UCLA's Outstanding Senior the year he graduated, Harvard Law School, etc., etc., etc.) has some super-human power that few of us can actually comprehend ..... but that a couple of us want to be REALLY close to .....

BACK TO REALITY, BRO'S !!! .....  just old dudes being boys again, renewing old friendships and clowning around just like we did during our years in the house.

It was great to see everyone last weekend, the Old Bro Network hopes that we can continue to hold more parties like this one as we head into the future.

And a GREAT TIME was had by all !!

Somewhere in the neighborhood of SEVENTY FIVE Old Bro's assembled in Westwood last night to tell some old stories, re-kindle some old friendships, and in general do something that we have always been very, very good at ..... PARTY !!

I'm not sure of the exact count (hey, don't forget, there WAS alcohol involved) but Old Bro's were there from the sixties, seventies, eighties, maybe nineties, and even a couple of New Bro's from the current chapter house as well.

And, as an extra added attraction, our presence was graced by none other than the fabulous cookie herself, Florida Taylor !!

Courtesy of Jeff Davis, here's one of the group photos that was taken well after the festivities were underway:

Assembled under one roof on 7/30/11 are some of the FINEST EpSig Lambda Chi's who have ever roamed the earth !!

Absolutely HUGE PROPS go out to Old Bro John Morris, who conceived, organized, and hosted this event.  Also, I'm sure that in the very near future John will be making available all of the photographer's pics taken at the event, stay tuned for that.

The Old Bro Network is all about old friends re-connecting, and last night was an amazing example of that.  Our little network is thriving due to the participation and support of everyone, and I definitely hope we will continue to have events like last night's in the future.

Old Bro's to converge on Westwood Village 7/30/11 !!

Before we get to one final update about the Lambda Chi Summer Reunion party, the Old Bro Network would like to announce the addition of THREE new Old Bro's, bringing the total roster count to 142, and updated info from ONE Old Bro.

"Stud of the Week" awards go to Mark Gordon and Scott Sellens, both of whom sent in contact info on Old Bro's who were not previously on the roster.

From the vaunted 800 zeta group, please welcome Steve Klein (EpSig 852) and Alan Heck (EpSig 856).

And, from the 900 zeta bro's, please welcome Dan McQueen (EpSig 920).

Updated contact info was sent in by Scott Sellens (EpSig 839).  New and updated e-cards have been sent out to everyone, feel free to drop these guys a note and say howdy !!

Now, one final update on next weekend's Summer Reunion party ..... John Morris reports that over SIXTY Old Bro's have RSVP'd for the event.  The Old Bro Network has e-mailed out a PDF version of the "list of attendees", check it out and see who's committed to show !!

This is definitely shaping up to be the largest gathering of Old Bro's in many, many years (probably since some of those bachelor party runs to Vegas back in the day).  Feel free to publicly harass any Old Bro's who are NOT currently on the RSVP list, they will be missing the event of the CENTURY !!! (well, so far at least).

Look forward to seeing all of you next Saturday night !!
